What BPC-157 is

BPC-157 is a synthetic peptide made of 15 amino acids. Its sequence corresponds to a fragment of a "body protection compound" originally identified in human gastric juice. It is a research chemical, not an approved medicine: it has not been evaluated by the FDA for safety, effectiveness, or quality, and it is sold for laboratory research use only.

Regulatory status: Not an FDA-approved drug. The FDA placed BPC-157 in Category 2 of its 503A bulk-substances list in 2023, and in April 2026 removed it from that list pending an advisory-committee review. Removal is not approval — as of 2026 it remains not approved for human use.
