Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide based on a fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH 4-10) with a Pro-Gly-Pro tail. It is not an FDA-approved drug and is sold only as a research chemical.
Semax is ACTH(4-7) joined to Pro-Gly-Pro; on-file CAS 80714-61-0 matches PubChem, and material is commonly supplied as the acetate salt.
Regulatory status: As of 2026, semax is not FDA-approved; semax (heptapeptide) was nominated for the compounding bulk-substances list and placed in Category 2, but that nomination was later withdrawn by the nominator (FDA Category 2 page, current as of 04/22/2026).
