Melanotan II is a synthetic cyclic analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone and a melanocortin-receptor agonist. It is not an approved drug; it is sold as a research chemical, and the FDA and other regulators have issued warnings about unapproved products marketed to consumers.
Contains the non-standard residues norleucine and D-phenylalanine and is a cyclic lactam; the on-file CAS 121062-08-6 matches PubChem for the free peptide, but material is often supplied as the acetate salt.
